Full Moon Ritual

(To be performed on the eve of the Full Moon).

Do a breathing meditation.

“This is the time of fullness, the flood tide of power, when the Lady in full circle of brightness rides across the night sky, arising with the coming of dark. This is the time of the bearing of fruits, of change realized. The Great Mother, Nurturer of the world, which is Herself, pours out her love and her gifts in abundance. The Hunter draws near to the Brilliant One, She who awakens yearning in the heart and who is the end of desire. I who look on her shining face am filled with love. Merry meet.”

Purify, cast the circle, and invoke the Goddess and God.

Move to the center of the circle and speak your name. Chant it, raising a Cone of Power as you raise one hand to the sky and the other to your heart, earthing the power into yourself, and filling you with the power and light of the moon.

Earth the power, trance or scry, then feast and open the circle.

Moontides, Dark and Bright Meditation

Sit or lie comfortably in a favourite spot. Close your eyes. Ground and center. Acknowledge your personal guardians and gods, and project a circle around you. Breathe deeply and steadily.
Let your mind become blank. Just turn it black, no light, no picture in front of your third eye. Let your breathing become steady and even. Now, in your mind, see a shape forming out of the blackness, a disc of deeper black, growing to fill the picture of your mind. Let the disc take on texture, definition, and see that it is a celestial body - one you are intimately familiar with. And as you ponder this shape, see it take on dimension, weight, and form. See the sphere of black that is a dark moon. Hear the whispers of your spirit and this representation of the Goddess, the Dark Mother. The wise and strict and benevolent Grandmother of us all. Feel her comfort, her power. And breathe…

And now watch as the Grandmother gives way to the Maiden, as the tiniest glimmer of light forms on the right-hand side of the sphere. Just a silver, a crescent - the energy of youth, of new beginnings as the moon crests into her power to transmute and take form. Notice the shape of the crescent now, a few days out from new, and how like a bow that crescent is. Feel the power of action growing as the light grows, and understand the place this moon phase will have in your workings. Just feel that energy now, as you breathe deeply…

The moon is near the halfway mark now. First quarter. Waxing. Feel the energy change to an even higher level for constructing, acting, moving. Pushing out. The Maiden is growing too, and becoming more fully actualized, more womanly, more mature. About this time, she is aware of her sexuality and her power to create change. Creativity is highlighted, as she is fertile now, rounded and beautiful, ripening as the light fills her more and more.

And she is full now, at the height of her loveliness and power as creator and nurturer. She represents the mature Queen of Heaven, for she is at the peak of her maturity, fully self-aware and self-actualized, sexually potent. Breathe in this energy now, and understand what it means in your personal path, how it feels in your body, how it fills you with the power to create change in accordance with will. And as you focus on this power, feel your own fullness as it connects to and relates with hers.

And now, as you breathe and feel this spirit power, see how the right-hand side of the moon’s face is now beginning to shadow, to change. Her light is waning now, passing back into darkness, into Mystery. Take a moment to focus on the waning, as you watch the shadow on the right grow. Lots of Witches won’t do magick during the waning moon, as they feel it holds less power. I would only ask then, how much power does Hecate have? How much power does it take to both spin and cut the threads of life? This idea that the moon is less powerful as she wanes is a misinterpretation, based on our culture’s unhealthy belief that anything dark is bad. The power is still there, and is still available. The energy is just different now - that’s all. Tune in to this power, and feel it for what it is for you on your personal path. So now just feel the energy, and as the shadow grows across her beloved face, know that this is a good time to make decisions about things that need to be let go of. As you think of these things, just let them go in peace. See how easily they go to the shadows!

And now see the tiny crescent that remains - on the left side of the sphere now, and how much like a sickle it looks. This last sliver is the Crone’s sickle, and it is a powerful time to cut threads in our lives that tie us to what is no longer needed. Give those threads over to the wise Hecate now, that she may teach you how to cut them without guilt or remorse.

And now, full circle, we’re back to the dark moon, the Mystery. Feel the power of this moon, too, how it is the same and also how it differs. How it pulls in, rather than pushes out. This is the power of receptivity. The power of woman. The power of the Goddess. And breathe. Take whatever time you need to ponder the cycle of the moon. Go back through her cycling again, if you will, and focus now on the current phase of the moon as you read this.

Addressing the Goddess on the Full Moon

“O Great Diana, Queen of all Witches, hear my adoration. Hear my voice as I speak Your praises. Receive my words as they rise heavenward, when the Full Moon brightly shining fills the heavens with Your beauty. See me for I come before You, and reach my hand up to You. As the Full Moon shines upon me, give me all Your blessings.

O Great Goddess of the Moon, Goddess of the Mysteries of the Moon, teach me secrets yet revealed, ancient rites of invocation that the Ancient Ones spoke of, for I believe. When they spoke of Your timeless glory, when they said to entreat You, and when seeking for knowledge to seek and find you above all others.

Give me powers, O Most Secret Lady, to bind my enemies. Receive me as Your child, receive me though I am earth bound. When my body lies resting nightly, speak to my inner spirit, teach me all Your Holy Mysteries. I believe Your ancient promises that all who seek Your Holy Presence will receive of Your wisdom.

Behold, I Ancient Goddess, I have come beneath the Full Moon at this appointed time. Now the Full Moon shines upon me. Hear me and recall Your Ancient Promise. Let Your Glory shine upon me. Bless me, O Gracious Queen of Heavens. In your name, so mote it be.”

The Veglia (use on a Full Moon)

Once, long ago, all Witches worshipped in the open fields and upon the ancient sites. And our chants were carried upon the winds. Our prayers were received upon the smoke of our incense by the Old Ones. But in times, we were enslaved by the worshippers of a jealous god, and our villages were given over to the cruel Lords. The Old Ways were forbidden and we were forced to accept the ways of our oppressors.

Now it is a time of gathering in the shadows. We have suffered persecution for our beliefs, and many of us have died. Yet we have been reborn among our own again. Always has it been that the cycle of Life pass and return again. All things are remembered, and all things are restored.
I am one of the hidden children of the Goddess. From generation unto generation has the knowledge been passed and the Old Ways been kept by those who kindle the flame. In remembrance, I come this evening beneath the Full Moon, to honour the past, secure the future, and receive the essence of the Old Ones. As it was in the times of our beginning, so it is now. So mote it be.

Full Moon Ritual

“I come on this sacred night of the Lady, beneath the Full Moon, to adore Her symbol, which she has placed among the stars. And to give due worship unto the Great Goddess as it was in the time of the beginning, so is it now. So mote it be.”

“Hail and adoration unto You, O Great Diana. Hail Goddess of the Moon, and of the Night. You have been since before the beginning, You who caused all things to appear, Giver and Sustainer of Life, Adoration unto You.”

“Hail and adoration unto Thee, O Source of All Enlightenment. I pray Thee impart to me Thy Illumination. And enlighten my mind that I may perceive more clearly, all things in which I endeavour. And illuminate my soul, imparting Thy essence of Purity. I reveal my Inner Self to Thee and ask that all be cleansed and purified within.”

“O Ancient Wanderer of the Dark Heavens, Mystery of the Mysteries, emanate Your sacred essence upon me as I wait below at this appointed time. Enlighten my inner mind and spirit, as do you lighten the darkness of night.”

(***This is a combination of phrases that can be used during a Full Moon ritual***).

The Storm Moon (March)

The Full Moon of March rains upon us, fertile and strong. Cold soil and soul, warm and awaken, softening in innocence with the first stirrings of Spring. Reflecting on the future we prepare for the time of fertile readiness by cleansing and blessing the growing ground, sanctifying the soil. The earth is prepared for planting, and the self is readied for change and growth. In the days before the birth, the Mother cleans the nest, preparing for the soon-to-arrive Innocent. Operating from instinct and cleansed of illusion, truth guides our choices. The primal self knows what to sew and what to cull.
Anticipation, inspiration, and imagination grow, their magical strength beckoning to the seeds of future harvests.

“Seed Moon, Plow Moon,
Moon of Winds,
Illusion ends as true growth begins,
Hecate, Athene, Astarte, Morrigan,
In pure inspiration the cycle begins again.”

The Quickening Moon (February)

The Full Moon in February can help you prepare for rebirth. Deep within, seeds are stirring with visions fertile and strong. While Winter’s fury blusters and brays, our own inner visions stir in the growing light of days. Below the surface of the earth, small seeds are awakening. Spring is still but a memory within our heart, but the worst of Winter has passed and soon the growing cycle will start.
It’s time to clear the clutter within and around. Let go of anger, resentment, and old, limiting behaviour. Clear yourself of habits and things that no longer serve you. Make way for new growth. Light a candle, white for purification and potential, beckoning the brightness of Spring.

“Hunger Moon, Wild Moon,
Ice Moon stealth,
In quiet preparation I love myself,
Brigit, Persephone, Diana, Kuan Yin,
Help to cleanse and heal what’s within.”

The Wolf Moon (January)

The Full Moon rises in January while the wild Winter wind howls. Like the wolves that stalked early villages, it prowls and growls, hungry and hunting, this Moon of deepest Winter. Inside, gather close to the warmth of hearth and home. Draw a cloak of protection and strength around you, and journey within. Let the darkness of the season shelter your plan and dreams. Inner visions appear, spurring us to plan what we will plant, for ahead lies the fertile cycle. Both in the spirit world and within the earth new life gathers its energies, preparing. Take time for quiet contemplation of what is to come. Focus on preparation and protection in the privacy of loved ones, for strength grows in the quiet times as we are readied for the season ahead.

“Snow Moon, Cold Moon,
Quiet Moon abide,
Let protection and strength grow inside.
Inanna, Sarasvati, Hera and Sinn,
Sew new beginnings deep within.”

Full Moon Ritual

The Moon Mother shines in her brightest glory at this time. In addition to being a time of protection magick and the dismissing of unwanted energies in our lives, Full Moons offer us a chance to say, “Thank you”, for the things accomplished during the previous lunar cycle. Giving thanks for completed work is part of achieving the cycle of balance that we work toward achieving in our lives.

“Lady Mother, I, who am your child,
Stand between the worlds in sacred space
Under your light.
Once more I affirm my joy in life
And in my union with you upon your path.
I honour you, Lady Goddess,
For the favors and energy you bring to my life,
And ask your blessing upon me.
Beautiful Lady, thank you for the light and
Beauty you bring to my life.
Thank you for the energy and wisdom you give
To me to walk in balance in your world.”
